The juxtaposition of the random parts and the geometric parts makes the piece for me. The fact that the mother seems to be in deep conversation with a person who we cannot see while the son seems to be dreaming a chess game blindfolded speaks so eloquently of the difference between their generations. I can almost feel the mother worrying that the son will not be up to the tasks that lie ahead and/or he is planning his game with moves she does not approve. The body language(s) of mother and son are so starkly different and so subtly presented that they seamlessly enforce the other themes and are wonderfully done. The simple but well executed coloring, adds much to the depth of the piece without running away with it. Thank you for sharing this with us, gregory.
